Sioux Empire Cornhuskers
Sioux Falls, SD.
Sioux Empire Huskers
Board Meeting: December 9, 2003
Agenda:
Members present: Truman, Brian, Jim, Dave, Brooke, Steve, Mary
Founders Day: Mary has tried to reach Tommy Frasier several times, had talked to him at the Husker Nation Blitz, and left several messages, but he has not returned any calls. Truman will attempt to contact him or Steve Pederson for Founders Day Speaker; however, the NAA will send a speaker, although at this date, we don't know who it will be. (note, as of this date, Jan 4....they will send Boyd Epley, Feb 28...and we have decided to go with Boyd as the speaker and Feb 28 as the date). Dave will reserve St. Mary's Parish hall and Mary will check into caterers. We were pleased with Olde Town catering that served last year.
Tailgate with Maximum Promotions: Mark Nelson contacted Dave and Mary about a joint tailgate with food, sodas, radio ads and live broadcast on Dec 29 for the Huskers at the Alamo bowl. He asked we contribute about $200 towards the cost, and our group can have an information booth about our chapter with newsletters, chapter info and membership applications. An executive decision was made by Mary and Dave to go ahead with this project. Dave will contact some of our scholarship winners to help man the booth.
Husker Nation Blitz: We helped coordinate the site and hospitality for the Blitz. Tommy Frasier and Boyd Epley were in Sioux Falls, Nov 21 for a fund-raising/information tour. They showed a short video and talked about the plans for additions to the athletic complex. We had an information booth and supplied sodas to attendees. A sign-in sheet was available, and all new names were sent a welcome letter, newsletter, and membership app.
Scholarships: Interviews are set for applicants Jan 31, and Feb 7. Brooke, Mary, Dave Jim and Truman will conduct interviews. Mary and Steve will contact the admissions office to see if our scholarship info can be made available to recipients of the "Postcards of Pride". ( update: the admissions office will email all of our contacts about the website and information)
St Francis House: Brian will contact them and set up a date in March and coordinate workers, and the menu. Decals: Brooke presented the design and costs of license plate decals. We will pursue this farther.
Family fun day: It was discussed to hold an outing at Great Bear in coordination with Founders Day. Anyone interested in a family fun day outing, please contact Mary or Brooke. We need to have some winter/spring activities to involve young alumni and families. The picnic is the best attended by this group, but we would like to have a variety of activities throughout the year.
Next meeting: Would Monday, Jan 26 , Tuesday, Feb 3 or Wed , Feb 4 be the best date? We need to have lots of members involved for Founders Day, and we also need to get by-laws approved. Please RSVP for your best time.
Thanks for all of your input and help. Happy 2004! |
