Sioux Empire Cornhuskers
Sioux Falls, SD.
Husker Board meeting: January 25, 2005
Members present: Dave F., Steve H., Paul D., Truman, Jim L., Joe O., Brian , Brooke, Mary
By-laws: Copies of the by-laws were distributed, read and approved by unanimous ballot. They will be in effect beginning Jan 25, 2005. Brooke and Mary had a template from NAA, made several changes including a clause in Article IV, which regards the membership of directors on the board. The revision regards attendance to meetings and events-if a board member misses 3 consecutive meetings or events, they may be dismissed.
St. Francis house: We will provide a meal on February 11, 2005. Steve Hauff donated 190 pounds of hamburger to them, which can be used. Brian and Susie, Dave and Mary, and Brooke and Ryan will cook and serve the meal. Mary will make dessert, Paul-garlic bread, Dave-pasta, Brian-spaghetti sauces, Brooke-salad.
Scholarship: We have money in the checking account to do 6- $1000 scholarships if the University can match the last two (we usually do 4). If we get a match from UNL, we will give 6. Dave has received 32 applications and expects at least 6-8 more before the deadline tomorrow. Mary, Brooke, Gordie, Joe and Jim will do interviews. Dave will set up the schedule of interviews.
License decals: Brooke has done all of the paperwork with the state for the decals; we have been waiting for a design. It was decided to use the alumni logo for trademark reasons. She will submit the design, and if it is approved, it will cost the chapter $125 for 100 decals to sell at our determined price. Joe suggested $20 as is popular with other groups such as Ducks Unlimited.
Founders Day banquet: The banquet will be March 5, 2005 with scholarship winners and parents as honored guests. Sean Callahan from Huskers Illustrated will be the featured speaker. The banquet hall has been reserved, and Olde Towne catering has been contacted. Joe Olsen will donate wine and set up the social hour. Mary, Brooke and Brian will set up the banquet and decorate, Jim will get the inflatable Lil'Red, and Mary will get the paper goods and dessert. Steve will work on door prizes and silent auction prizes.
Book club: One of the ideas from the VLC was a Husker book club. We would like to get one going (OK>>>maybe Mary does)... it would meet on a regular basis, and choose books recommended by the members. Anyone interested in joining, contact Mary Dick.
Young Alumni events: Other ideas from the VLC were things that involved families such as breakfast with Santa, or an Easter egg hunt. Several ideas were discussed, and Joe will check into the Sioux Empire Huskers doing a booth at the ZOO BOO. Other possibilities might be a Husker day at the Canaries or something in coordination with the Sioux Falls parks events in the summer.
